I understand that if we have an illegal bat or kick by A behind the line of scrimmage we would enforce this from the spot of the foul. My question is; if B does this are we enforcing this from the previous spot?

Yes. Loose ball play, so the basic spot is the previous spot.

Why is it different for A and B? They are both loose ball plays. I am still trying to get my head around this form another post on the foul by B in the endzone. 10-4-2-b and 10-4-4-a don't say by A or B

Because illegal batting is in the group of fouls by A behind the LOS that are enforced from spot of foul. (int. grounding, illeg forward pass, illeg kick/bat, illeg part (helmet off or enter during down)).
Everything else is previous spot.

Welcome, Steely Dan, to our forum. May you find it both enjoyable and informative.
The rationale behind the list of spot fouls by A behind the line of scrimmage is the foul could be intentional to prevent loss of yardage more than the penalty would cause ifenforced fro the previous spot. Example: A's ball @ 50, QB scrambles back to his own 40, about to be sacked he spikes a forward pass. Previous spot would place the ball at A's 45, which wouldn't be fair. Hope this helps.

So what are y'alls thoughts on all of the Offensive penalties behind the LOS being penalized from the LOS now? Not all of them I know, but take a hold for example. I don't think I like this.

I hate it. All But One was very easy to teach and understand. I fear NFHS is heading down the path where they'll be like the NCAA - with so many exceptions and exceptions to the exceptions that our younger crews will never get enforcement right.

Welcome to the days of “more offense is better” football. I could go on a long rant about the reasons behind this philosophy, but suffice it to say that many more kids grow up wanting to be the star QB or WR than the star LB or CB.

I can take partial blame on this. I'd lobbied for years to have fouls by B when runs ended bwhind the LOS to Have previous spot enforcement ( QB sacked by facemask or reciever held downfield causing a QB sack to name a few), but it became obvious that it wouldn't pass unless I agreed to include fouls by A behind the LOS.

If the NFHS editors didn't write the rule like a bunch of goobers that never read a rule book then we would be fine. Instead, we got this chart that's impossible to teach.

To me, the chart (only for running plays) is much easier to understand than the words. It is just for running plays and it is all in one place -- no searching here and there to find different situations.
Now if they would just state "enforcement spot" instead of the ambiguous "basic spot".
