Title: Player "Giving Himself Up"
Post by: JDM on October 18, 2024, 08:40:13 AM
As I recall, there was a play a couple or more years ago where the punt returner "gave himself up" and then advanced the ball. I thought Shaw either clarified the rule with a CFO video and/or bulletin. I can't find anything in the rules or an A.R. and am looking for guidance on this. TIA.

I looked on page 32 (as well as 31 and 33) in this group page and didn't see anything. Can you advise the name of the post you found it in?

The play is on the CFO 2018 Game Video Review 3 - September 19, 2018. Redding and Shaw deemed the play legal at the time, but again, I thought there was a follow up advising to shut it down if the player "gave himself up".
