The Tyler Chapter hasn’t had a State Championship game in 2 years, previously 20+ years in a row. Anyone explain the reason?

Did they HACK off some coaches? Welcome to how almost every smaller chapter feels, every year.
No change in terms of how games are assigned, until chapters/TASO grow a backbone and put structure and order around the process, it's a complete crapshoot subject to the whims of coaches (and however good people can cozy up to a coach under the table... don't think for a second that it does not happen, I've witnessed it. That is invariably what you get when you adopt a system that invites and rewards solicitation, regardless of what the organization's 'solicitation policy' says.)
(Just to be clear: I am unequivocally NOT saying that Tyler has done anything below board, just that no one should be shocked if it were ever to come to light, by ANY chapter.)

Yeah I wish there was a more fair way for championship games to be assigned. Out of 692 games 4 chapters got 1 or less. I know someone of these chapters have gone years without any playoff games. I doubt they can't put together 5-7 good officials or a decent game. Some chapters are screwed geographically which they can control but no one seems to be trying to help fix the problem from what I can see.
I would like to see more inclusion with these games maybe a bit of a rotation like once a chapter gets a certain championship game they can't do that level for a few years ( chapter xyz does 4 d 2 then they are blocked from that for a period of time) give more chapters the opportunity.

We're really talking about two different things here: how championship games are assigned, and how playoff games are assigned. They need to have different processes.
There's lots of 'more fair ways' to improve both, that TASO could work towards, but from what I have seen and the conversations I have had, the bigger chapters prefer things as they are, as it seems to benefit them much more.

Been saying this for over 40 years. Only football gets to choose who works their upper level playoffs. Until the UIL and TASO find some intestinal fortitude and take coaches and officials out of the selection process, nothing will ever change.
And yes, I have witnessed officials asking coaches for games.

Did you report them for an Ethics violation? Either to your chapter leadership or TASO.

Rules question for the end of Vandy/SLC game:
On a kickoff, does 1 second have to come off the clock once either team touches the ball? Was trying to figure out how SLC could've won the game since there was 1 second on the clock on the kickoff. Had SLC legally recovered the onside kick, would that 1 second have come off the clock? If so the only 2 ways I could find that SLC could've won the game (or at least tied it with a PAT) were:
1) Vandy player picks up ball, runs with it, fumbles then SLC runs it back for a TD
2) KO goes off a Vandy player and somehow ends up rolling into the EZ where SLC falls on it (SLC cant advance on onside kick)
Are there any other ways SLC could've scored a TD on that KO?

If Team A cleanly recovers the ball, no time will run off the clock. This is the same if Team B cleanly catches or recover the ball while grounded or cleanly catches or recovers the ball after a fair catch signal. AR 3-3-2-VII covers these scenarios.

The only other scenario that I can think of that would result in no time running off, would be untouched KOB. If I remember right, this wasn't ruled as touching, but replay showed it was, which started the clock.

That depends on how they recovered the ball - if they recovered it and the ball became immediately dead, such as the player lying prone on the ground, or a fair catch, they would still have one second left. If they recover and the ball does NOT become immediately dead, meaning when he possessed it he was not down by rule, the clock would start, and their only hope at that point is scoring on the the runback.

The ball would be dead on team A’s recovery. No down by rule needed.

You're right - I was not equating SLC with Team A.
