Title: Runner Dives to Avoid Tag?
Post by: TampaSteve on April 02, 2025, 10:45:15 AM
Kids emulate what they see on TV, right?
For NFHS can a runner dive over the fielder who is in the process of making a tag?

Short answer — no.  Rule 8-4-2:  “Going over the top of the fielder who is not lying on the ground by hurdling, jumping over or diving over the fielder is dangerous, and therefore illegal.”

Notice that this means over the torso of the fielder.  It’s OK if he jumps or dives over the outstretched arm or glove.
