I'm getting a presentation ready and was wondering what answer the group here might have for this question.
Generally speaking, over the years what have you observed to be one or two of the most common rule and/or penalty enforcement mistakes that you see high school crews make?
For example, I'd say one would be penalty enforcement for defensive holding fouls.
Thanks

The most common rules related mistake that I see on an ongoing basis is the handling of Forward Progress. Both FP spots while inbounds and FP spots + clock status when ball carrier ends up OB. Reviews of game videos consistently show that these are problems that need more work.

Kicks always seem to be an issue; there are a lot of things happening during a play that we, at best, see every four plays, but usually, less than 10 a game. Confusing PSK enforcement, knowing the status of the ball when the foul occurs, knowing basic spot vs enforcement spot for each team, and ensuring flag spot after we have cleared the play and deadball action.

I believe NFHS rules for enforcement of DPI are different than the ruleset I use (NCAA/Texas),

I believe NFHS rules are different than the code I use (NCAA/Texas), but assuming enforcement is the same, I'd put that one up there as being challenging (when to go full 15, half distance, inside the 2.) At least, it's something I still have to remind myself of, on a somewhat regular basis.

NFHS is either 15 yards or half the distance, period.

This is the NFHS forum. No need to continually bring up NCAA rules or what you guys do elsewhere. I mean this with the utmost respect.

Understood, and apologies. I don't have access to a NFHS rulebook to compare to know what is different and what is the same.

Again man, much respect to you. I didn't mean to sound like a dick, sorry if post seemed harsh. It just gets confusing trying to think through NFHS rules and then absorbing posts comparing it to NCAA situations.

Ineligible receiver down field, both from a rule and judgment perspective. A lot of officials think the linemen can't go down field until the pass crosses the LOS. They don't realize they can go down field when the pass leaves the passer's hand. They also forget to check where they are when the ball is gone and don't notice them until the pass goes down field and assume they're down field.

All good, I completely get what you're saying.

IMHO, the most common mistakes often occur when we try to enforce per what we see on TV (NCAA & NFL). The leader is probably a muffed kick going into R's EZ. Remember, guys, that a kick remains a kick until possession is gained and once the kick enters R's EZ it dead and a touchback reguardless of what might be seen on the tube. One that is easy to foul up is when a team is in a 'hurry-up' offense....
(1) Less that 1:00 to go, A gains 1/10 @ B'20;
(2) A1 takes snap BEFORE RFP ^flag =DOG.
(3) We need to remember : (a) Foul occurred BEFORE RFP on new series ,reset stakes = 1/10 @ B's 25.
(b) Consider if to apply 3-4-6 and start clock on RFP.
THINGS I ENJOY REMEMBERING MORE...

I’m sure that’s fairly rare, but it needs to be fixed. A shouldn’t get an advantage by fouling.

It's been briefly discussed, but the majority feeling that applying 3-4-6 and cranking the clock would serve not to make it a popular move.

I was referencing the resetting of the chains to 1/10. By all logic, this should be 1/15.

IMHO this is something that should be discussed and decided on during the pregame discussions. U stays with ball until R signals to leave and almost simultaneously he gives the RFP. This is another area that video review show is handled very inconsistently from crew to crew. Team A should have a fair chance to snap quickly after the RFP.
