Illegal batting that was incorrectly ruled a safety
Replay that changed a down AFTER the next down had been played (and a RPS foul called on the next down) (who ordered the change?)

Kansas-Missouri. Fumble loose on the ground. Ball is batted (I've not seen a clean view on video myself) forward by Team B into Team A's end zone where a Team A player falls on it and recovers it.

I think Shaw stays away from the really embarrassing misses on his training videos. Case in point, I guarantee you Shaw would have wanted Brian Kelly to be flagged for sideline interference in the Clemson game when he got run over in the white, but that didn’t make the video.

I have. Bigger than life. Not sure how both the C and R didn’t see, or recognize, the batting. But, moreover, why Replay didn’t get involved and fix this clear and obvious error that involved a score.

100% agree, Ole Miss runs a textbook illegal hideout play against TAMU in2023, and nothing on the weekly video. But the next year we have a new AR addressing the exact play.

Not sure if you’re referring to UConn @ Syracuse, but there was a play (fumble vs. forward pass) at 1:02 in the 2Q that didn’t get reviewed until after the subsequent play had been run. The referee went on the microphone and said that replay buzzed before the snap on the second down play. It was a terrible look by the replay crew and it was an unnecessary stoppage as the uphold was pretty obvious.

I haven't seen it but that's def the play in question. More importantly, the white hat, Gary Patterson, has resigned, effective immediately, and I have seen elsewhere that it was due to a disagreement with Al Riveron, Supervisor of Officials for the ACC. Don't know the accuracy of the reason, (or that he has actually resigned, but I'm pretty sure he has).

Yep, I’ve heard from three different people that Patterson resigned over that screwup being pinned on him by Riveron.
Since Riveron has taken over as ACC coordinator he’s lost four of the ACC’s most respected white hats to other leagues or to early retirement – Jeff Heaser, Jeff Flanagan, Stuart Mullins, and now Gary Patterson.

He resigned. A replacement R has been assigned to that crew.
Regarding the reason, I will say “personal integrity.” And I will say that I fear that, by mid-century, on-site and on-field officiating will no longer exist. It will all be done from ‘command centers.’

The only way this would change is if the assignments came from the CFO and not the conference supervisor. In every level of officiating and every sport, the person that controls the assignments controls what is done and called.

Kind of my point. You can’t truly be “one CFO” unless all the assignments are coming from Shaw or whoever the head of CFO is. Everyone is in their own fiefdoms with their own preferences and conflicts of interest. We are long past that time at the P4 level but it will never change because the coaches and conference commissioners won’t cede their power over officiating.

We know that a punt is not allowed on a kickoff; only on a free kick after a safety.
When a ball is loose, we need to be prepared for the possibility of illegal batting (or kicking). And know that batting of the ball imparts the impetus on the ball, if it then travels into either end zone, where it becomes dead.
And, unless somebody ‘upstairs’ declares otherwise, replay can’t get involved with a down after the ball is put in play for the succeeding down. (I’m guessing replay (or their superiors) will claim they buzzed the crew before the next snap, but they didn’t respond. Or, they tried to buzz the crew, but the equipment failed to work properly. Baloney.)

Reading that, the entire problem was caused by the Command Center, not the officials at the game site. Wow.

Those in the command centers are at the top of the ladders in their conferences. I doubt they’ll discipline or fire themselves.

I have to admit that being able to see inside the ACC’s replay process is pretty cool and it’s getting a lot of praise after the Clemson-Georgia Tech game yesterday. But that doesn’t change that it’s incredibly disturbing how they overreached in Paterson’s last game.

The Command Centers include more than replay supervisors, like Officiating Coordinators, conference execs, even the Commissioner. The big question remains: Who made the decision to ignore the next down? I don’t believe for one micro-second that the crew was paged before the next snap. Baloney. Somehow, at least 5 dedicated FBS officials all chose to ignore their pagers and/or the RO calling for a review on their O2O system? I don’t buy that. A very dangerous precedent.

I also call BS on equipment not working to buzz the crew - I sat in the replay booth for a D1 FCS game a few weeks ago (first time, looking to start being a replay technician), and each pager is tested/buzzed multiple times to make sure they work, and every pager's batteries are replaced, every week... not sure if that is a standard practice, but it is where I was at.

In the conferences I worked in FCS, the buzzer was just a formality. Once the replay official decided to stop the game, the communicator would tell us over O2O. We would hear "Replay! Replay! Replay!" before we ever got buzzed...because of a potential delay with the pagers.
Note: I don't know if that's the case with the ACC or not.

I retired prior to O2O systems, so all we had were pagers.
