This might be a basic question, so I appreciate your patience with me.I’m newer to college FB officiating and saw this in a lower level college game.
FG attempt (ball snapped from the B-12)…blocked at line of scrimmage…ball bounces and goes beyond the neutral zone…a Team B player falls on the ball at the B-8. The next play was snapped by Team B at the 20 yard line.
A) Since the ball crossed the neutral zone, and Team B touched it, shouldn’t Team B have next snapped from the 8 yard line?
B) If the ball never crossed the neutral zone after the block, and Team B fell on the loose ball at the B-14, would B next snap the ball from the 14?
My understanding is that the ball would only go back to the 20 if the missed kick goes beyond the NZ and is untouched by Team B. Just checking to see if I’m interpreting this right.

You are correct in both situations. Once Team B touches the ball beyond the neutral zone, it’s just like a punt. And if the kick never crosses the neutral zone, it is also treated just like a punt. So in both situations, the ball would belong to Team B wherever they were down by rule.
