Title: Dollar Power
Post by: ElvisLives on December 06, 2025, 08:04:27 AM
Very curious about the price of gas across the country. At this very moment, I - and everybody else - can get regular gas for $2.05 without any sort of ‘deal’ or membership discount, etc., here in Lubbock, Texas (the home of #5 Texas Tech University, playing for the Big XII Championship today!).

How about y’all?

Wow. 70% higher in AZ than TX. Unreal.

I had a 62 VW Beetle in 1970, and I could go 2 weeks on $2.00 worth of gas, at around $0.20 /gal. I recall my Dad telling me he paid $0.05/gal in the late 50s.

Would love to hear from folks in the NW, MW, and NE.

$2.34 is the cheapest I’ve seen in Tuscaloosa.

But understand that the pump price is greatly affected by state and local per-gallon taxes.  Our state tax rate is $0.31/gal, with county and city adding an additional $0.01 each.

In Texas, there is a 20 cents/gal State tax, and a Federal 18.4 cents/gal Federal tax, but no city or county taxes/fees.

Not as high as I expected there. Hope it keeps going down.

Except for some extreme locations, we all seem to be far better off now than a year ago. Let’s hope it keeps moving in that direction.

$3.19 a gallon regular in Vermont.
Guess it costs a buck a gallon to truck it up from Texas.

11,000 gallons per truck. $11,000 per run. Yeah, that might be profitable. A couple of runs per week. OK - I’ll DO IIIIIITTTT!
