Title: Unfortunate IW
Post by: ElvisLives on December 28, 2025, 10:12:58 AM
Military Bowl, IW cancels a long TD run by ECU running back. ECU took the ball at the spot of the IW.  A couple of plays later, Pitt recovers and advances a fumble for a TD. Catastrophic error. ECU went on to win, but you just don’t know how a game might have played out without such an error.  We’ve probably all been there/done that. Doesn’t make it any easier.

There are 2 types of football officials, ones who have had an inadvertent whistle and ones that lie about it.

Three. Those who have, those who lie about having had one and those who will have one.

I prefer riffraf’s take on it. If you’ve worked even one down of football, you’ve had an IW! 😂

Yes, I’m exaggerating, but just trying to point out how difficult NOT having an IW is. But, we all need to take this seriously. IMHO, the IW is the worst mistake we can make.

I’ve watched this play a dozen times and still don’t know for sure who had the IW.  The H obviously puts his whistle in his mouth, so I’m guessing it was him, but he kept officiating the play, rather than stopping at that spot and giving the dead ball signal.

Yeah, I only saw the replays that were shown on the broadcast, and I was wondering the same. But, it must have been audible, otherwise, why would the official report the IW? IMHO, it is to his credit that he ‘owned this,’ and reported it. I’d work with a guy like that any time.
