Title: legal or not
Post by: vtwin900 on September 06, 2010, 05:59:25 AM
legal formation (5 numbers 50-79, and three on back), WR A80's on the line between 7 and ten yards on the right of the tackle.

a-move back two feet (so is in on the back) and at the same time he's in a motion until snap

is it foul, because do not one second between he moves back and start the motion?
At start, he was on the line, so is he a lineman (with all restrictions)?

A lineman may not be in motion at snap, and for a lineman to establish himself as a back he has to stop. So, foul, illegal motion.

If the whole team is set for one second and then A88 moves back there is no requirement that he stop for one second to establish himself as a back, a distinct pause is all that is needed to establish himself as a back before he goes in motion, because he is the only player in motion.  However if there is a trade, where A88 moves back and another player moves forward to the line, then they both must stop for one second before it is legal for A88 to go in motion.  When two players are moving it is a shift and the requirement of a one second stop is in play, but when only one player is moving a simple pause is all that is required.
