Title: Facemask enforcement spot
Post by: Dr.G on September 18, 2010, 10:18:52 PM
Tonight I was at my Texas State Bobcat vs. Cal Poly game. Team A, 2 and goal from the team B 1. QB hand off to RB who is pulled down by his facemask at the team B 8 for loss of 7 yds. My question is where is the enforcement spot. The crew assessed 1/2 the distance from the end of the run at the team B 8. Team A 1st and goal from the team B 4. I thought this was a basic spot penalty to be assessed using the 3 and 1 rule. That would make it team A 1st and goal from the team B 1/2.

You are correct, they should have enforced from the previous spot.  1st and G for A at the B-1/2 yard line.

I am a Cal Poly alum.  Looks like my Mustangs put up a fight at least.   :)

Welpe,
I was surprised by the enforcement spot. The crew overall was good. It was a very good game. Both teams were well prepared and evenly matched. The game could of gone either way up until the end. Cal Poly is always tough. That was a great win by Cal Poly over Montana last week. Good luck to Cal Poly the rest of the season.
