East Carolina DB Blacknall suspended
By Andrea Adelson
East Carolina defensive back Derek Blacknall has been suspended for one game by Conference USA for a flagrant personal foul he committed against Southern Miss last week.
Blacknall unleashed a helmet-to-helmet hit on Quentin Pierce at the 11:24 mark of the fourth quarter. Pierce left the game with symptoms of a concussion. Officials flagged Blacknall for a personal foul. NCAA rules state helmet-to-helmet hits are subject to automatic review by league offices.
The conference reviewed the play with Dave Parry, the national coordinator of officials; and Rogers Redding, the NCAA rules committee secretary-rules editor. Blacknall will miss Saturday's game against N.C. State.

He may have gotten off easy. It looks bad from the sideline view, but horrific from the end zone.

Sounds like there was an earlier ejection for helmet-to-helmet hit that was less egregious than this one. It would be interesting to compare and contrast the separate plays.
