Title: Michanics Question
Post by: TxSkyBolt on October 23, 2010, 01:25:16 PM
Not sure why, but have noticed in the past few years, the wings sprinting to the R when they have a false start/off side with contact.  What is the purpose?  Not sure if it's just the Big XII (which I watch more than any other conference.

Sprinting to the R is faster than walking.

Going to the R to report this foul prevents the situation where one wing is standing with his hands on his hips and the other is twirling his hands around.

Since the number of the fouling player is now announced when reporting the foul over the microphone, the official has to get close enough to relay that information to the referee.  Before that, it was not necessary for the calling official in those instances to get that close to the R.
