Fellow Marines Happy Birthday. This year General James Amos was appointed to replace General James Conway as Commandant of the Marine Corp.

A short while ago the former Marines in my office had a small ceremony to commemorate on the 1st floor of our 4 story building. They did an overhead PA announcement throughout our building announcing it and asking the former Marines to gather on the 1st floor for the ceremony. Of course, being the wise-arse former Army guy, I then jumped on the paging system and announced that anyone who saw a former Marine wandering the halls like they were looking for something should show them how to find the 1st floor. >:D

There are no former Marines. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

You jarheads need to get you stories straight. When I call the guys here ex-Marines they correct me and claim they are former Marines.

Happy birthday to you Marines, including my grandfather who would have been 91 next week. He was a career Marine serving in WWII, Korea and after. He enlisted in '39 as a private and retired a Captain. He was also stationed at MCAS Ewa on December 7, 1941.

If you know a Marine (or any veteran), shake hands with him for a guy from Austria. Our life is better because of them. To a great part, it was their commitment that made the watchtowers, barbed wires, and mine belts to our east go away.

Very true. There are Marines (still serving), former Marines (no longer serving) and ex-Marines (no longer of this world).
My Dad (now an ex) served 28 yrs. Was in for the fun in Korea and twice in Vietnam. Happy to have never rcvd the Purple Heart, which is also the reason why he threatened to shoot me himself if I went thru with my thoughts to join after college. He figured he used up all the family luck (and he also knew the survival rate of Marine Lieutenants).
Here is the deepest of thanks to my father and all those with greater courage and conviction than I to put it on the line for the rest of us.
