Title: Nebraska at A&M - Illegal Wedge?
Post by: NVFOA_Ump on November 21, 2010, 12:19:08 PM
For our top-notch video crew - Nebraska kick-off following the first score (FG) in the first quarter.  Thought I saw A&M with 2 players together in front of the return man, and as the return man approached the "2-man wedge", a 3rd player slid into the line.  I was reaching for my flag, but wanted to wait for the re-play which never came (it was commercial time).

Good eye!  Just went to the tape and saw it.  Will post it later.

Mike, can you also grab the DPI that was waived off?

Here is another call from that game that was interesting.  This video is obviously from the Cornhusker perspective.

WOW!  Re: Nebraska hit - Didn't look late, high, or with the helmet to me....

Maybe it's "payback" for prior transgressions.....

On the RTP, I believe the R saw the defender put his head down as he came in and instincts may have taken over.  He flagged "seeing" the leading helmet.  Problem is helmet did not hit the player.

Thanks Mike!

I would think that would be an illegal wedge...  also, I think a good pickup on the DPI...

I agree good pickup on the DPI.  What are your thoughts on this?  I'd probably kick too, but still have to flag it.

Animal husbandry is a popular course at A & M.  The young man was simply combining his school work with his football and taking the chance to practice his artificial insemination techinque

If I had a dollar of everytime I had a player tell me that "they are grabbing my balls in the pile" I would be rich. But for sure I would be kicking his arm away if it were happening to me. Too bad that didn't get called.

I thought he was just practicing his techniques for his Animal Husbandry proctology exam, or maybe you're correct and he was just a bit "off center"?

Who called the foul and who got him off of it?

I think the S might have called it with the pull on the back, the B might have let him know that the defender made contact with the ball before or at the same time of the pull on the back.

The S was the 1 talking to R so that may be a good guess
