If you happen to get a chance to work a state championship game this weekend will you put on the UIL hat? Personally I think they look a bit ridiculous and would prefer to wear the black and white striped hat without any decorations.
-
At least they have the white piping this year. Last year they were solid black.
-
Last I checked, the existing mechanics manual does not provide for wearing any adornments like those UIL patches.
-
Nope. Not unless I am working for Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey. Then the hat would be fitting.

If we were fortunate enough to get into another UIL Championship setting, my crew would graciously accept those UIL hats, but we would still wear the prescribed hats on the field. And what about those UIL-comped hats? Those we would be most happy to donate to a local homeless shelter! z^
-
Im sure even the homeless have morals and would not want them. nAnA

Funny you should say that, williebe! My wife said the very same thing! Great minds do think alike, don't they! z^

You know what? This ought to be just a great topic for a poll! z^

I am not UIL registered, so I think it would be somewhat hypocritical to wear the swastica. UIL says that registration does not mean that an official is a member, so by not wearing the hat, we could just as easily say that not wearing them is not a denouncement of the UIL.

During the Cowboys game they showed highlites of 3A title game from Saturday. Were they wearing the UIL hats? Looked like it.

Really? Now we are worrying about the caps worn at a Championship game? Whatever your position is on the UIL / TASO court case, the UIL is the sponsor of the Championship games. I don't see the big deal about wearing a cap that says UIL, TASO, or whatever. At least this year they are a regular officials cap with the UIL logo.
Worry about the game and the kids playing in the game and don't make this an argument about UIL / TASO.

It is not. According the the uil, officials are not allowed to make rules and take an officials time out for water. By the same rule, the uil is not allowed to change mechanics and approved uniforms.

There have been times in the past that officials were put on notice for wearing non-fitted caps in playoff games. They are not allowed. This cap is the same thing. What's next? A cap with an advertising logo on it? How about one with Fox Sports SW on there? How much will officials be compensated for the free advertising there?

Sponsor of what? The schools involved are paying the UIL. State Farm is a sponsor but I sure won't be wearing a state farm hat.
