Focus, focus, focus...even when the game is "over" and in its waning moments, gotta stay focused. We let offense play with 12 (almost 13) AND we give 'em an extra 15 yards at the end of the play. From a Texas HS Championship game

Great googly moogly. Don't the UR and R count offence every play? EVERY play?

UR, do you mean the U? If so, yes the U sNiCkErS and R count, and confirm, on EVERY play.

It appears the U gives the extended-arm & fist signal at least once, maybe twice.
At least Team A has only 4 backs and no mugwumps. :D

Not sure I have seen the spread -- with a TE in addition to the other receivers and backs.
Which chapter had that game. I know it wasn't Dallas. Maybe one of those great UIL assignments?
-
That would be the South Plains Chapter
-
Wearing the hats don't make 'em UIL-trained.....yet. I suspect other crews in other places could have done the same.
-
Maybe they're paid only enough to focus for part of the game.....or they worked for free

Man you Texas guys are real quick to throw your brethern under the bus. hEaDbAnG

no ones perfect im pretty sure we all have not counted a time or two. and if you say yes i sure you may be telling a lil white one.

I can honestly say I never not counted in a Championship game. (Course I can always say I have counted in a championship game also). ;-)

I can honestly admit that I have failed to *accurately* count as R. And I have been U when my R failed to count, too.
Our association also has the side guys count as well. Head linesmen get Home team, Linesman get visitors. That protocol caught the one time this season both the U and R were napping ... and we had too many bodies on the carpet.

49 seconds left in a 35 point game that had quite a bit of cheap things going on and they missed one count?
This has happened to every R or U at LEAST once, whether they knew it or not.
-
Miscounting has also happened to deep judges, who are countingTeam B, and there were 3 of us.

Exactly. There's been numerous times where I was the only one down and others where the other two were down and I wasn't. Depends on what's going on. If I have other stuff going on that I have to watch, I may not get a count. However, I will NEVER signal when I didn't count.

How many officials work TX HS Championship games - 5,6,7?
If there are more than 5, how many have direct responsibility to count the offense/defense? Sure, a lot of things could be "going on", but can there ever be an excuse for EVERYONE with the responsibility to miss this?

5 Man mechanics. R and U count offense. B and LJ typically count defense-- although some have B and HL/LJ depending on which sideline is on defense. So, in this case, it was simply the R and U.
