The Stuff is about to hit the fan when it comes to Texas State Education Budget. Get ready to have much more pay drama then we have ever had before. So here is the discussion topic:
What can ISD's do to save money when it comes to officials? (Yes I realize they can save lots of money in other areas but lets concentrate on what we know). I also realize that if the AD's/Coaches would have been more receptive to our conflict with the UIL we would be willing to listen to them with regards to a pay issue. They made their bed and they can sleep in it.
1. Hand us a game check as soon as we officiate a game. This saves postage and you dont have to have a secretary fill out the paperwork. If a mailed check is worth $60 I would work for a game check of $50 if you handed it to me right after the game.
Any other comments or suggestions?

They can reduce the size of coaching staffs. Some of the larger schools seem to have 20-25 coaches running around.
They can cut back on non revenue sports
They can cut back on travel ( although UIL realignments many times create travel problems)
They can cut back on technology for athletics. More and more of even the 1A schools have as much video,etc as the NFL
Most of all they can stop Robin Hood which takes money from some districts and parcels it out elsewhere.

Or try to go to two officials for jr high games.
Is it possible under UIL rules to play a shorter season, scheduling less non-district games?

This would not surprise me in the very least. But I really believe that you can rest assured that there will be absolutely no reduction in the price of high school athletic tickets, nor will you see any reduction of the percentage of the UIL take of all public school playoff game revenues! z^

Would not hurt my feelings but then again that is how we train the new officials.

Title 9 issues on nonrevenue sports
Travel is an interesting concept
Video cameras are booster club but someone is being paid to film

I am an administrator in a decent size district. These items are not part of a specific budget and are overall an expense item taken from the generated funds from the events. It has nothing to do with what is going on in Austin.

Trust me! As long as the :!# Dancing Monkey continues to dance to the dirge of the tiphat: Good UIL Dr., then he has absolutely nothing to worry about. And that's taking into exception all of the impending State of Texas layoffs that Gov. Rick and the Legislature is going to soon mandate! z^
