I had seen that article and it was good to see a breakdown of the expenses. Normally they are not in the paper. If true each of the 5 man crew got a check for a little over $950.00.................

Sorry to butt in on this, but I thought you guys were paid based on number of fans. Is it actually a percentage of the gate receipts? Unless my calculator skills are pretty bad (or I missed something in the article), I think there were just under 20,000 tickets sold to that game. I've seen a pay scale at some point in the past, but I don't really remember any details about it. But, I can't imagine officials getting paid that much for a game where there are only 20,000 fans. Thanks! :thumbup

This could also include lodging expenses, travel, and meal allowances depending on where the crew came from. When I have gone there from southeast Texas for games we have generally spent one night at a Courtyard class hotel near the stadium and driven aroud 750 miles round trip.

Since the schools are getting their money, maybe the officials will finally get theirs.

Lest we should all remember that in standard business definitions, "gate receipts", aka "gross receipts" are supposed to be inclusive of all revenue taken in for the scope of a given game. Let's be sure to add TV revenue, advertising, program sales, et. al. So with those included, that should raise the ante substantially so that those "calling officials" should be getting a rather decent paycheck for the game they worked.
But truth be known, don't look for the UIL to ever share any of that information with anyone, even with a properly filed FOI. As is, it is money in the bank for the Manor Road Crowd in that they don't really have to share it with anyone, school districts included. Which pretty much sets the standard for the game officials to get severely hosed by the UIL and also by the competing schools!
As you can clearly see in UIL 1204, gate revenue now only exists for football. By the UIL's own predilection, gate revenue for all of the other UIL sports has pretty much gone the way of the dinosaurs. Keeping that in proper perspective, a rational man can only wonder at this point in time whether football can really be that far behind? z^

Gate receipts do still exist in other sports in Texas until all of the TASO UIL mess is settled. Since we are still under the old 1204 we are supposed to get paid gate at games...although I never see a gate at baseball games unless it is playoff time. A couple of schools in SETX pay baseball gates, but I did a big 4A rivalry game last year that had to have a couple of thousand people in attendance. Bleachers were packed and people lining the fence...no gate was paid at all and I know they charge admission. To top it off I got scratched because the home team lost and the coach blamed it on my strike zone.
I am actually looking forward to the new 1204. It will allow for more officials to get mileage (at a reduced rate) in most sports and it will raise the base pay in baseball games. Heck a JV game will pay more than what we have been getting paid for Varsity. Not so sure about the loss of the gate in the baseball playoffs, but at least the officials will get a raise each round they progress.

The Crew that worked the game traveled about 100 miles.
