Try from the B-3. Shotgun QB A11 hands the ball forward to Back A22 at the B-8 and A22 muffs the ball to the B-3 where B67 bats the ball into the end zone. A38 recovers the ball in the end zone and he then rolls directly out of bounds.
-
Muffed handoff is a fumble, so the only person who can catch/recover the fumble is A11. A38's recovery as such is legal but the ball is dead and belongs to team A at the spot of the fumble, B-8. Batting by B67 is backwards and in the field of play so it is legal. Result of the play: try over, team A kicks off from A-30.
-
Same play but now A38 muffs the ball and it rolls over the end line.
-
If the bat by B67 is made before the fumble strikes the ground: Touchback, no score, proceed to the kickoff.
If the ball has struck the ground before the bat: The bat does change impetus, so team B is now responsible for the ball being dead out of bounds behind the team B goal line, so team A scores a one point safety.
