There was a fumble/no fumble play during the game that I thought was covered very strangely.
PSU runner is tackled & the ball eventually comes out. Alabama clearly recovers. The covering official (H?) held the forward progress spot and made no call. No whistle, no raised hand, no bean bag -- nothing.
I was under the impression that (in replay games) the default call was "fumble", so that play could continue and replay could return the ball to the offense if it was clear that the runner was down before the ball came loose.
Replay did overturn this, but it looked really unusual.

I think he had a forward progress spot and did not know how the ball came out. I think he was also looking for help as to if the ball was out and when he did not get it, he went with what he knew. At least that is what I saw from his body language.
