Anybody see this debacle? I watched part of the game today on CST. What happened with the extra down, then a punt, then a review, give the ball to Tech back where the extra down occurred, then overruled again, and place it at the spot of the punt return??

News report...for what its worth..
"There was a 16-minute delay early in the second quarter, the result of the replay officials losing count of how many snaps from center Hawaii had used. At first, they ruled Hawaii actually punted on fifth down and were prepared to give the ball to LaTech at UH's 22. But after McMackin went on a rampage, the officials realized Hawaii had called a timeout prior to third down and that snap hadn't counted, meaning the result of the punt would stand with the Bulldogs setting up shop at their own 36."

This article says the 2nd qtr delay was 22 minutes to sort out the possible loss of down. It also reports that UH received the opening kick and the kick to start the 2nd half??

From the article, sounds like maybe Replay buzzed to advise of the "extra" down. I can't believe 7 on-field officials could get the count wrong. Can Replay overrule the on-field guys on the correct down?
Best regards,
Brad

Yes, replay can correct the down.

Yes, replay can correct the down.
Grant,
I guess what I'm asking is if Replay says 4th down and the 7 on field officials have 3rd, who has the trump card? If replay was the instigator in this fiasco, seems they got it wrong.
thanks,
Brad

reply wins because they have the ability to go back on the video as far as they need to to get it right.

If it ain't broke, don't get replay to break it.

Watched some more of this game. After the first fiasco with the delay, this crew looked absolutely flustered. I felt sorry for them, we all been there before, but at that level it's just not acceptable.
