Title: Score early and often...
Post by: RMR on October 24, 2011, 09:28:43 AM
Well I had something happen on Friday that I had never seen before.  The home team was up 21-0 exactly one minute into the game.  They then extended their lead to 28-0 at 8:12 of the first quarter.

They had to hang on to win 36-29.

We had a 27-0 halftime lead once by the obviously inferior home team in the first game of the season..  The vistors  gave up a 99 yard pick six after a great drive, had a fumble on a pitchout returned for a score, a blocked punt and a shanked punt that gave the leaders a short field.  But you could tell that the vistors had better athletes, they just kept shooting themsleves in the foot.  The home team could hardly tackle and most offensive plays were for little or no gain, except for the two short drives.  We talked about it at halftime and told each other not to coast - this thing wasn't over yet.

Second half the visitors scored 56 unanswered to win 56-27.  I think they were eventual state finalists.  Home team was 1-9 for the year.
