Title: Trip or not?
Post by: NorCalMike on October 31, 2011, 02:34:57 AM
I was reviewing video of an earlier game and came across this?

What do you think? Do we have a foul here?

#74 actually contact with lower leg his opponent, but it really looks more incidental that deliberate.
Under NCAA rules (R2-S28) Tripping is intentionally using the lower leg or foot to obstruct an opponent below knees (Rule 9-1-2-c "there shall be no tripping. (Except Tripping the runner is not a foul).
Ciao

No flag. Intent has to be obvious for this foul.

Too borderline to flag. Could easily have been a sidestep. There is a minor ... awkwardness that emerges in slow-mo, but still... nylon stays in back pocket here.

It's the whole slo-mo thing. It looks a lot worse when you slow it down.

Good play.  I believe if you call this it is supportable.  I see the LT stick his leg to the side and raise it up which trips the defender.  I'm not dismissing saying that it's not tripping but I think if you call it you've got a correct call.
