Title: Software Needed for Mechanics Manual
Post by: bjfb on December 06, 2011, 10:15:00 AM
I am looking for software that allows me to diagram plays and insert the positions of officials in the play
diagram to show how we are to cover the play for both 5 and 7 man mechanics. Need to be able to copy and paste into a Mechanics Manual.

Any suggestions on the software to purchase is appreciated.

PowerPoint would work fairly well.  Once you create a template page that include a field diagram, it's just a matter of moving shapes around the field and drawing arrows, etc.

If you don;t have PPT and cannot afford it, use Open Office Presentation.  It is free, open source and downloadable from: http://www.openoffice.org/product/

I'm sure MAC has a product if you're a MAC user.

You can type "high school football association" in google. It will produce TONS of association websites that have their training material openly available. Many of these associations have Mechanics diagrams in PowerPoint already.

I have searched all of these sites and downloaded all their training materials. If you would like to private message me i would be happy to send you everything i have on mechanics. It might help you start out and give you some ideas.

Rickky is correct Power point is probably the easiest to start with. If you are looking for something WAY more professional i would recommend looking at Adobe products. Adobe InDesign is a great print and digital publishing tool. It is a bit expensive unless you know how to get it for free. ;)

Bjfb... send me a private message i would be interested in helping you get something started. I am also working on revising my associations mechanics training this off season. I would not mind having another person to share ideas with.

Not sure if this would work as you would need an iPad or MAC but a presenter told us about this app at the ACC mini-clinic last Saturday.   It is a  coaches clipboard.   We were told that in addition to players you can also insert officials.

I don't know if I want to tinker with it on my Android phone and I don't have an iPad yet  but supposedly Santa might bring one   pray:;

It is a coaches clipboard app and you can't insert refs.......
Yes I did attend the ACC mini-clinic but I already had downloaded and played around with the app.
You can add cones but not refs.

The free version of iplaybook football is better I believe.

You can add cones but not refs.

In some cases, that would be a drastic improvement.   8]

C'mon, you couldn't throw a softball like that out there and not expect me to take a swing at it!

Wonder if the cones can replace coaches, too?

The cone refs would just trip over the cone coaches in the box, so probably would not work.

Softball you ask AB?

Speaking of cones, I am surprised no one has made an Erin Andrews reference. ;D
