Title: UIL vs NCAA vs NFHS
Post by: tempestos on February 27, 2012, 11:21:24 AM
Does anyone have a document or chart regarding the differences between UIL and NCAA or NFHS?  Also, does anyone know how it is handled when UIL teams play teams from other states using NFHS rules?  Thanks.

The differences between NCAA and NFHS are too numerous to have a simple spreadsheet.

When NFHS teams play here in Texas they use UIL rules. I assume when Texas schools play out of state they use NFHS rules.

Thanks.  I found the UIL exceptions to NCAA rules and I already have the NCAA/NFHS rules differences document put together by George Demetriou.  If, as you said, the home state team's rules are used, then that answers my question.  I assumed that when Texas and non-Texas teams played, they used some sort of hybrid rules.

One of the teams we played in high school was in Clovis, NM. I remember being vaguely aware that they didn't play by the same rulebook we did, but it never clicked as far as what the difference was. Only now do I realize NM uses NFHS where TX does NCAA

I remember doing a game with a team from OK once. We had a play where the OK team B player was blocked below the waist and he was blocked really well. Coach went ape sh&*( on me about it. Asked was that not a block below waist. I said yes and looked at him quietly. He then smiled at me and said "oh he** I forgot I was in Texas."

And the proper response back to that Oklahoma coach would have been: "Yep, Coach, you're in Texas alright! But next year, when they play you back at your place, you're probably going to get that call!"   z^
