Midway through the 3rd quarter it is 4th and 18 at the A-30. The snap sails over punter A39's head and is rolling on the ground at the A-12 when A39 kicks the ball out of the back of his end zone. Options for Team B?

First thought is, 10 yards from spot of foul plus loss of down, Team B 1/G at A6 or safety. Isn't this more of an example of illegally kicking the ball instead of an illegal kick?

What cougar said. Illegally kicking the ball. See Rom Gilbert's video clips http://romgilbert.us/2012vidclip3.htm

You are both correct.

In Canadian rules, this is a safety ... ?

We are talking NCAA rules for this play. (It, or one very similar, actually happened last Saturday).

Would have loved to have seen the spot of foul out around the 20 to see if they actually would have penalized just the 5 yards as announced
-
Hey Mike, does the Refstripes.com film archive have a shot of the actual play, by chance?

The clip is posted above....

The R mis-spoke. The actual enforcement was half the distance. While they got that right, even the best screw up an announcement every now and then.
