UIL and Visors
« on: August 12, 2025, 04:22:51 PM »
Oakley "Prizm Clear" and Nike "Vapor Speed 2.0" are approved by the NCAA as 'nearly clear.' So, the UIL has also approved those visors, too. How can we tell if a visor is one of those? We can't. Yeah, we're supposed to ask the coach if the visor is one of those two approved visors. Yeah, that will work. Shades of knee coverings/pads... (see what I did there?)

TAPPS? I don't know. I haven't seen their 2025 Exceptions, yet (don't think they've been released).

Same for Guardian Caps. We were told that TAPPS will not allow them, but then we heard they were considering allowing them. But I haven't heard anything different.

This gets weary.

TAPPS will allow the nearly clear visors. For the guardian helmet, they must be the same color, and have a medical wavier.

Yeah, I heard from somebody this afternoon. But, I’m not sure ‘medical waiver’ is the right thing. I understand it is a signed parental release. As always, the answers are incomplete. Are parental releases on a standardized TAPPS form (similar to the UIL “Request for Accommodation” form needed for tinted glasses or goggles), or can the parents scribble something on a napkin? Are they gonna show us the releases, and accept anything provided as being legitimate?
We have liability here, and we need a better process than this.
