Do El Paso or the Texas valley chapters ever get to officiate in the semis or finals?  This chart seems very skewed to the bigger cities or the areas closer to Dallas and Houston.  Why not give the officials from the other areas a shot at the playoffs every once in a while?  I'm sure they have some excellent crews that would do a good job in the games.

Dontchaknow that Houston and Dallas are the only places where you can find good officials?

Tyler has both 5A games this weekend and may have had 1 or both last year also.

But let's be honest, the only thing HARD about games at this level is the impact and significance of the game.  I bet there were plenty of 1A and 2A games around the state this season that were very difficult to work, no matter who had them yet they may have had "lesser" officials working them.

Hard work and clean living is what we are supposed to tell folks................ LOL

Actually Tyler Chapter has had quite a few title games in the last few years. Coaches talk to one another and make recommendations.

That and Dallas and Houston are usually shut out of the 5A and 4A games because their local teams are playing for championships.

Some observations about playoff games this year.

Houston was down for the third year in a row.  In 2009 they peaked, with 135 total games.  2010 - 123, 2011 - 115, 2012 - 107.  I don't think this has anything to do with Houston, but more to do with the other chapters working hard to pick those games back up.

Dallas was up significantly this year, I guess as a benefactor of Houston's losses.  Perhaps coaches are looking to use Dallas instead of Houston, or maybe it is just coincidence due to who was playing.  Next year's numbers will tell us more.

San Antonio is back up after a hiccup last year.  They went down 11 last year from 2010 but were back up to normal this year.  Why?  Most likely just a matter of who was playing.

East Texas was down for some reason.  Waco and Permian also.  The one that gained the most, percentage-wise, was Central Texas (Temple).  They doubled their playoff totals for some reason.  Their first week totaled the same they had the entire season last year.

The one they baffles me is Tyler.  Before 2006, they didn't get many of the larger school final games, but they routinely get them now.  Something has changed there that doesn't make any sense.  You would think those larger playoff games would go to the bigger chapter that do many more of the larger classification games throughout the season and playoffs.

The last one is Abilene.  The same crew worked two "big" playoff games last week, and has a 4A championship this week.  Congrats guys.  You must be doing something right.

Is there anyway to tell whether the Tyler selections were by agreement of the schools, or by UIL choice?

As I understand, they were both coach request.

The Central Texas (Temple) increase was due to several factors but one in particular:  The new 5a district got our chapter more exposure and the coaches gave a number of crews good recommendations to other inquiring coaches. It got my crew two metroplex 4a playoff games.

Once again the Houston Chapter is shut out of 6man playoff games.  This continues to be the longest streak of any chapter and lack of selection from any specific classification of games.  When will the other chapters learn to share this group of games?  When will the 6man coaches across the state realize that the Houston chapter calls over 150 varsity 6man games a year.  This needs to change and someone needs to do something about it. yEs:

tiphat: aWaRd ^good

I feel your pain!!!   I believe all the other Chapters should refuse 6 man Champ games until Houston has had their "fair share".   ;D

I'll take it a step further.  I will trade a 6 man playoff game for one of your 6A games next year.  We'll get you boys in the bracket.
