Illegal forward pass, touching or nothing?
« on: November 28, 2020, 07:24:48 PM »
TA&M QB hands to #26 who is hit immediately behind the LOS. Going down, #26 pitches forward to #58 also behind the LOS...#58 gets tackled for a loss of yardage.

Ruled.as loss of yardage on the play.

Illegal touching by an originally ineligible receiver. 5 yard penalty from the previous spot, repeat the down. Sounds like the defense defined the penalty.

  • The rules are there if you need them.

What does that mean? Was a foul called? Or, was ‘progress’ ruled; thus, no foul?

Not positive it was forward, I have it saved and can look later on.  There was no flag on the play.

  • Without officials... it is only recess.

If there was no eligible WR in the area you could also have intentional grounding.

It was ruled a backward pass. The player was trying to pitch it backward to a teammate on a reverse but was hit as he was releasing it, so the ball didn’t make it to the intended target. The lineman happened to be there and caught the ball and was tackled for a six yard loss. Replay could get involved to rule it forward, but 2nd and 16 was worse than the 1st and 15 for illegal touching would have been, so there’s no point in stopping the game.

Legacy, was spot on.  I did go back and watch it.  The ball didn't go forward, just straight up.  Good call to let it stand as the result of play was worse than penalty would of been.

I'll go along with that. It was strange to see. #58 was in front of the running back .....White Hat and Wing said Hello and decided on WingHouse afterwards ....no flags, brief message.
