First touching play
« on: August 16, 2023, 12:49:10 PM »
K punts. First touching by player K4 at the R16 yard line. R21 picks the ball up and runs to the R35 where he fumbles, which is recovered by grounded K80 at the R35. During R21's run, the Line Judge runs into Coach R who is standing on the sideline.

R 1/10 @ R8

The foul was committed during the down and after R touched the ball so according to a strict reading of 6-2-5, R would lose the right to get the ball at the spot of first touching. But the penalty for this foul is enforced at the succeeding spot so it's a live ball foul treated as a dead ball foul. So viewing it that way R would still able to get the ball at the spot of first touching with the penalty enforced from there. Does anybody have anything else?

This is apparently a rather popular play.
