Odd off the wall made up last minute rules
« on: October 25, 2020, 02:33:11 PM »
We are prepping to come out and play in a rain storm Noah would be proud of. So bad all of our fans remain on the buses now parked on the track around the field. JV has just finished their game. Knock on the locker room door. Coach opens the door. There stands seven of what look to be football officials. Soaked to skin, mud all over each one. White Hat is no longer white. "Gentlemen! We have added a new rule for this game! Intentional drowning! If there is a pile for a loose ball, get off the pile immediately. Anyone we see holding a player down in a puddle ... and the whole field is a muddy puddle! Will be flagged for intentional drowning and removed from the game!"

Broke three ribs in that quagmire.....Camp Zama, Tokyo, Japan.

Last ambulance to leave third quarter.

We had one several years ago that required a little creativity.....

SCENE : Early in 3rd quarter on Mt. Desert Island (Bar Harbor) when two banks of lights at one end of field went out. Home athletic director, both coaches and I met. The AD informed us that the power company estimated the outage would last at least an hour.

OPTIONS :
   (1) End the game now;
   (2) wait for outage to be corrected - see if snack-shack has enough lobster rolls for officials  :) ;
   (3) continue the game "half-court" and turn the teams around once they reached the 50 heading toward the dark end.

The coaches both agreed to go with #3. We agreed if B gained possession they could advance into the darkness until the play ended. This went as smoothly as it could and the lights returned with about two minutes left in the game. The game ended before the drive did and we all lived to tell about it. Their snack-shack had both lobster rolls and chowder for the officials. We were treated well...

Same thing happened at a local game I was watching years ago. Game was finished on the lighted end. Lights were fixed for the game Saturday night...

Had a game that at half, they turned off the mercury vapor field lights so the cheerleaders could do a fire baton routine. Maintenance guy locked the breaker box and went home. After half, maintenance guy could not be found, had to wait for him to be summoned and then 30 minutes for the old mercury vapors to brighten up!
