10 second subtraction rule & the play clock
« on: November 21, 2019, 11:33:13 AM »
Since I have not had to deal with the 10 second subtraction rule at all during the regular season and the fact that I have a playoff game tomorrow night, I just wanted to make sure I got the following straight in my mind.

10 second subtraction rule only applies to the last minute of any period where there is a foul, which can be declined, just like a normal penalty.

So, the play clock should be set to 25 seconds, since there is a penalty portion involved.

Do I have this correct?

The completion of the penalty governs the play clock.  So that means 25.  Like Jason said, the 10-second subtraction only applies in the Second and Fourth periods.

Study 3-4-4 carefully.

Thank you gentlemen kindly  tiphat:

Looked up rule 3-4-4 just to make sure I am on the same page as the game clock operator (He/she is school assigned at the game I am working tomorrow). Just hope the game clock operator is up on the 10 second subtraction rule just like I am doing today.

Don’t forget it also applies when the clock stops only for an injury or helmet off, too.
