Questions for UIL.

We all have questions, they said that they would answer questions.  Why not compile a list, send them in and see what happens?

1) How long will the registration of officials whose chapters chose not to become UIL chapters remain free as stated in the recent communication...  "However, all officials must complete the free registration process annually".  Is this the plan for the forseeable future?

 Will UIL permit only 1 chapter, be it TASO or UIL, per area or will they permit a UIL Chapter and a TASO Chapter in the area? 

How will UIL handle complaints about judgment calls or rule enforcements?

TXMike: When the  tiphat: Good UIL Dr. made a trip into Houston to address the then TASO Basketball Chapter at a very well-publicized meeting at Campbell Center attended by some 300+ and just prior to the UIL's "hi-jacking" of it, he basically said the same thing that is stated in that recent memorandum. In essence, he stated something to the effect that "the UIL would be more than happy to represent any chapter that chose to walk away from TASO, but that he was leaving that decision solely to the majority of the members of each chapter and would give that organization its due recognition. But conversely, if a given TASO Chapter by a majority vote chose not to defect to the UIL, and continue to remain in the TASO fold, then the UIL would recognize that chapter and that chapter only. Even if there were some minority defectors from a TASO Chapter that wanted to set up a UIL Chapter, the  tiphat: Good UIL Dr. stated that the UIL would only recognize one chapter in a given locale. In "fairness" to TASO, the President called a meeting in a fairly remote area of Harris County for the then TASO State President(Mike Wilson) to address the Chapter. This meeting was barely even advertized as there were only 30 or so people in attendance there at a facility that was actually still being renovated in Pasadena.


The Houston Chapter took several months to ultimately defect from TASO primarily because they never could come up with a meeting that adequately met the quorum requirement in its by-laws to properly and legally transact business. In the by-laws was a codicle to the effect that at each ensuing meeting, the quorum requirement is reduced by half. Long story short; when the defection move was finally made, it was done at an extremely under-publicized meeting by a vote of some 38-25. Thus, a 650+ member chapter defected to the "Evil Empire" with such a paltry turnout of its members.

On a side note, it is more than interesting to point out that the then President of TASO Basketball Chapter was a person who was a student of and had played basketball for the  tiphat: Good UIL Dr. when Dr. B coached high school basketball in SE Texas quite a few years ago.   z^

In football, are there any plans to move to the NHFS rules? 

All other testing and training materials for other sports come directly from NFHS, how will that be possible in football without moving to NFHS if a chapter chose to "align" with the UiL for football?  Testing, training materials and mechanics publications are all property of TASO.  If there are any UiL football chapters, what will they use to accomplish those same tasks?

I am sure there are more than a few "experts" around the state who will be jumping to the UIL. They could put together a basic training program.  And since they may have already done some of this for TASO as a volunteer, they would likely volunteer for the UIL.  And they may already have many materials accumulated to form the basis of the program.
