Handing to a Lineman

Are you still able to hand to a lineman that began the play on the line of scrimmage so long as he turnes 180 degrees and faces his endzone and is two yards deep before receiving the handoff?  I know this used to be the rule a couple of years ago.  Has it been removed or changed?

Welcome to the forum, Animalspooker, may you find it both enjoyable and informative. This rule is to prevent the old "center rush" where the center used to begin a snap until it touched the QB's hands, pull the ball back and begin his waddle toward paydirt. ^good That center rush should not be confused with today's potential "center rush" if he gets whiff of the umpire's sNiCkErS sNiCkErS supply. The center and umpire often have similar dietary habits. :)

Still a rule, and in 2007, I had a team that tried--and failed--to take advantage of it, twice, both on tries.  Was R in both games, and called illegal forward handing when the ball was handed to the left guard who had turned (a) 90 degrees, and (b) 120 degrees.  The coach was advised before the game that 180 meant 180, and no less.

The key is that's a requirement for forward handing to a lineman.

That's a very good point...a backward handoff to anybody can happen anywhere and at anytime.
