I've always been a big sports fan and NOT bosting, but reminiscing of the exciting games I have watched over my lifetime.


Born : 10/24/1945 ,also known as United Nations Day. We were born the same day, which will last the longest 

CELTICS NBA CHAMPS : 1957,1959, 1960,1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976 1981 ,1986, 2008,  2022  .
 

PATRIOTS SUPER BOWL CHAMPS : 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, 2019
 

BRUINS STANLEY CUP CHAMPS : 1970, 1972, 2011.
 

RED SOX WORLD SERIES CHAMPS : 2004, 2007, 2013, 2018

i CERTAINLY HAVE AN ADVANTAGE AS i'VE BEEN 'IN TOWN' LONGER THAN MOST OF YOU. iT' OBVIOUS THAT THE CELTICS 16 SKEWERS THE TOTAL OF 29, BUT i BET MANY OF YOU HAVE COLLEGE FAVS (ESPECIALLY SEC FOOTBALL) AND WOULD ENJOY SEEING YOUR LIST OF YOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS...MY ONLY ncaa FAV CHAMPIONSHIP WERE :

BUT, during YOUR lifetime, Yankee Al  .  Hey, they are at the top right now.

Ralph- small world.  If you’re a Boston fan, I thought you might like the following:

It’s been about 30ish years ago now, but I used to play USTA team tennis against Bailey Howell regularly.  Heck of a nice guy and a pretty good tennis player.  Not so much a problem up and back, but you couldn’t get anything around him side to side.  The man had a wing span like a jumbo jet.

About 20ish years ago now, my son played baseball at Delta State in Cleveland, MS, where Dave “Boo” Ferriss coached for many years.  While he was no longer coaching, Coach Ferriss still came to all the home games, kept his own home made score book, and if it was cold, the outer layer was always that old wool Red Sox pitching jacket.  The very definition of a scholar and a gentleman.

Lastly, though Boston didn’t win it, for my money the 1975 series vs Cincinnati is the best one I ever saw.

Thanks for the memories, Fearlessleader. "Buckshot" Bailey Howell (as Johnny Most knew him) was the mainstay of many Celtic teams in yesteryear. "Boo" Ferriss was one of the Sox's coaches back in the mid-50's which was during my daze of youth. It was said that he used to pitch BP for them and throw either left or right handed, depending on who the rivals were pitching. IMHO, the 1975 WS ended when Pudge Fisk cranked a Pat Darcy fastball off the LF foul pole....some say there was a game seven.

Actually Ralph, for both my lifetime, as well as the current season (thus far) the answer is  "Yes".  However, I'm never able to forget, or ignore, Yogi Berra's caution/hope, "It ain't over till it's over".

Having been a Yankees fan as a boy (until the Braves moved to Atlanta), and a life-long University of Alabama football fan, championships seem to be a birthright.  1961 sticks out, since that’s my only “double title” year.

He was actually Boston’s pitching coach from 1955-1959, and he was ambidextrous (or as we say down here, he was amphibious), so I’m sure that story about throwing BP right or left is absolutely true.  He probably pitched left handed at some lower levels of baseball, but he never pitched left handed in the major leagues.  When he wasn’t pitching, he played 1st base- left handed, and he always batted left handed.

BUT, during YOUR lifetime, Yankee Al  . 

The Yankees only won 18 World Series (thus far) during my span (thus far) and to be honest I wasn't paying all that much attentions during my early years.  But in those days, during High School summers, you were expected to get a job, and an available, and convenient one, was that of a vendor for Harry M. Stevens at both Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds, which were both within walking/short bus distance (never included Ebbet's Field as that was a long subway ride from home).  Both Yankee and Giant schedules were staggered so they rarely (if ever) played at home on the same dates.

Got a good work out lugging those heavy back tanks of orange soda up/down the Stadium's Upper deck, but got to see a lot of great baseball watching Willy, Mickey & the Duke (when the Dodgers visited the Giants). Also got to see some GREAT NFL games (Damn Colts), where the tanks were full of hot coffee, (had to wear rubber back aprons) and for some older, more enterprising vendors, who carried private flasks of special flavor enhancers.

As the song goes, "Those were the days, my friend".
