I think it's dumb, but technically meets the requirements of 1-4-6-c as long as it's off.  That said, if they turn it on during a game, they're coming out. 'Coach, no, he can't just turn it off, by rule (1-4-8-b) he must go out for one down.' If you've got the stones to risk getting scratched, this will very quickly not be a thing. Or, if you don't, it will continue to get worse.

The trick will be what direction we are given from the UIL as to when they can be lighted. It could get as complicated as they can be lighted any time the play clock is not running, or the ball is not live. So, a guy makes a great catch for a TD, and he jumps up and turns on his visor to flash all variety of colors, until the R makes the ball ready for play.
Or, the UIL may say, since the lighting can be turned off without removing the helmet, medical professionals will be able to see the player's eyes through the otherwise clear visor, so there is no restriction on using them.
What are the odds on the UIL banning them?   LOL

Some "ideas" never change, one of the few is "Stupid IS, as stupid DOES".  Other than "distraction" and "grand standing" what could be the actual purpose of such devices?
