"If that play would have been [sic] blown, like I said, four yards earlier, there would have been nothing goin' on."
Ah, it's the officials' fault. Thanks, coach!
-
It's hard to resist, but don't get into the middle of a scrum like this....nothing good can come of it.
-
Totally agree. The school districts certainly wouldn't condone that behavior in the classroom and if the field is an extension of the classroom, it shouldn't be condoned there either.

I came on here just now because I saw a gif of this on another site. Wondered if we'd seen it yet. Wow, what a nasty nasty nasty thing to happen. Apparently, there WILL be charges and the police are now investigating this

The coach had two disappointing quotes.
"It's good nothing bad came out of this." -A player being arrested for assault and battery must not be a bad thing.
"If the play had been blown four yards earlier, nothing would have happened." -Of course, it was the referee's that provoked an assault and battery.
-
Ye gods. That kid's a senior? Hope you enjoyed your high school career, cause it ought to be over now.

As I stated on the other board, what happened in the space of four yards that made the difference ripping off an opponent's helmet and then bashing himin the head with his own helmet and NOT? It must be monumental, Coach?
My understanding is the coach that made that statement is the bashee's coach. If I'm the superintendent, we've got a new job posting to get busy on. He obviously doesn't need employment educating children.
-
The reporter stated the player whom was hit did not receive a concussion, was examined and allowed to play again that night. In the short clip we are able to watch, he looks dazed and confused as he works his way from the field. He is not even aware there is a major scrum occurring behind him.
-
Why was the one kid ejected for trying to break up the fight? If somebody's getting their head bashed in with a helmet, I don't care who breaks up the fight, it just needs to be done.
-
Why was the one kid ejected for trying to break up the fight?
I am not sure the number of the second player ejected. It is my assumption it is number 12, whom apparently has ran from the bench, to join the scrum. The assaulted and assaulter have already been separated when #12 enters the fracas.
-
My computer was being stupid the first time I tried to watch the video so all I could read was that he "tried to break up the fight"
#12 of the red team came in, dove into the pile and started punching #15 white, who did the helmet assault. Understandable, but still illegal.

A somewhat typical complaint is, "we always catch the 2nd guy", an appropriate response might be, "After 125+ years of "catching the 2nd guy", you might try teaching, "Don't be the 2nd guy".

I'm honestly very surprised he was charged with a misdemeanor over this. That could have gotten much more serious, to the tune of aggravated assault with a weapon, the same felony charge George Zimmerman is looking at right now after his latest tirade involving a gun.

That's right, Coach! As long as you don't have to start taking responsibility for teaching your kids how to properly play football, why start now? Or is that what you taught them out there at practice?
I'd have a wonderful time cross-examining your sorry, self-serving backside when you eventually get to take the witness stand! z^
