Question?
Team A attempts a PAT and is blocked by Team B.
Ball lands in the end zone and is first touched and picked up by Team B and ran back for 2 points.
Play was not blown dead and line judge signaled a score.
Later, head umpire declares it a dead ball because it crossed the neutral zone on the block before it was picked up. No points awarded. Team A proceeds to kickoff to Team B.
Thanks in advance for your help on this one!

Sounds like the right result. A scrimmage kick blocked within 3 yards of the neutral zone by team B is considered not to have been touched beyond the neutral zone, and a scrimmage kick untouched by B beyond the neutral zone is dead when it touches the ground in the end zone. The crew may have not had the correct mechanics but ultimately got the play right.

Coach, you haven't stated which rules you're using.
Under NFHS, the try ends when it is apparent that the kick will not score. 8-3-2 So after B blocked the kick, they recovered a dead ball. And B cannot score during a try under any circumstances. 8-3-3
Under NCAA, when the kick lands in the EZ, it is dead by rule, and the try is ended. 8-3-1 Once again, B recovered a dead ball, though in NCAA it IS possible for B to score during a try.
So although the basis is different depending on the code, it sounds as if the result was correct.
