One of my group worked a D2 playoff last Saturday and got to wear the NFL style foul weather top from
Hon.., the "evil empire". He came away impressed. Allegedly they will be making their way down to the HS market. Don't know if they are going to produce a 1" stripe or this will be the push to put us over in to 2".
Only problem for me that I see is I might work a game every 3-4 years that would truly call for it. Not sure if it would be worth the cost. I remember the $200 Gore-tex shirts they tried to sell a few years back. I still have the $75 reversible jacket I bought back in 1994 when I started that we can't wear.

I bought the Honig's Windstopper last year and swear by it. Combine it with a regular long sleeve shirt and you will be comfortable in most situations. And it works with the HS, NCAA, or alternate striped shirts.

They may not be necessary in the Sunshine States, but up North, where in addition to periodic snow, it gets really cold, a lot, especially when the sun goes down.

All you need is the plastic liner underneath your regular shirt. Add layers underneath that for warmth and you are good as gold!

In the south, a ten game schedule that ends the second week of November, you may wear one once a year. Playoff time, may add two more dates. So, we just use the old layer method. Not really worth the investment in cold weather specialized gear. Now, baseball, that is a different story...

I'd hate to be working a game tonight without something like that; it's noon here and 11 degrees. It's probably only going to get worse tonight.

Been done for many years. The old guys have some amazing stories like bread wrappers on your feet and trash can liners underneath your shirt. The ice bowl ref said the whistle froze to his lips.

I resemble that remark!
