A Covington police officer at the center of the controversial arrests of two high school football referees is under investigation again.
Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz announced late Tuesday afternoon that Sgt. Stephen Short is on paid administrative leave while he looks into how Short accessed information only available on the police department's phone recording system.
Red flags went up when specific recording requests were submitted regarding Short's appeal of his demotion punishment for the referee situation in October. Short wanted copies of two calls Chief Lentz made to the two referees, and a call a detective made to a possible witness.
The chief says he is looking into what happened, who was involved and if any policies were violated

What is the big deal? Does the chief have something to hide? The guy is followingvthe procedures in place to appeal his demotion . He knows all the department calls are recorded so he asks for them as possible evidence in his appeal proceeding.
-
I'm just speculating, but it may have something to do with where he got the knowledge that the chief had made these particular calls.
I doubt the chief is hiding too much since he was not chief at the time of the incident.
But anyhow, I'm sure there is some reason why he was put on leave other than just at the whim of the chief. I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

He apparently got access to the system. I assume this means he went around whatever procedures were in place to assure that the records were not released to unauthorized personnel. He should have safely assumed that his superior spoke to the victims and witnesses involved in the incident for which he was disciplined. If he planned on appealing, he would have been permitted to file the appropriate request to obtain the records. My guess is he wanted to know what was said before he did it.
Dude has major issues and needs to be $#!t-canned posthaste before he costs that town a boatload of cash. There is no telling the amount of dirty dealing he has done as an officer in his "career". He'll eventually get fired, sue, settle, and sign a non-disclosure agreement.

What happened to the "idiot" R in this deal?

What happened to the "idiot" R in this deal?
The charges against the "idiot" R were dropped, along with the charges against the H.
Doing their jobs makes them idiots?

Just as much as the officer doing his makes him I guess

The officer wasn't doing his job.
I haven't read one article where anyone, other than the officer, claims he was. Even the mayor and new chief didn't back the officer.

The officer's job was to provide security and assist with sideline control at the game. He did not do so and in fact contributed to the problem that the H was trying to have corrected - how do you figure he was doing his job?
Are you privy to some information concerning this case that no one else seems to have?

Easier just to post this link than to hash it all again.

He was hired to do a job. We may all agree he was not doing it well but just as he was wrong to interfere with the crew no mattr how poorly they may have been doing they were wrong to try to order him out of the stadium. They both overstepped their bounds. The difference is this officer may be demoted and the R and crew are unscathed.

No matter how poorly they may have ben doing?
You were there, and know they "ordered him out of the stadium"?
The R was summoned back into the situation by the former lieutenant when he was seeking out game management to deal with the situation. He handled it the right way and paid the price for it.
Unscathed? If spending the night in jail is unscathed, well OK, unscathed then.
Given your vast knowledge of this situation and the proper way to handle it, would you be interested in perhaps speaking at our state camp in August on this topic? We can use the pointers you could no doubt provide. Let me know and I can put you in touch with the proper people if you're interested.

Reading through this story, this cop and his power trip reminds me of the officer in Baltimore, Officer Salvatore "Dude" Rivieri who threw a kid on the ground and threw a temper tantrum about how "I'm not man! I'm not Dude!" because a 14-year-old skateboarder called him dude.
In both cases, the dude needs to calm down and get off their high horse.

It isn't rocket science. Po Po is not doing what you want don't get in POURING contest just go to game admin. Don't tell po po to leave. Even a Cajun should be able to figure it out

So, obviously you missed the part about how he was headed to involve game administration and was summoned back by the former lieutenant and cuffed. He handled it just the way you now say he should have, it got him arrested and you have determined he was wrong by doing exactly what you say he should have done. I'm not sure I follow your logic here.
I'm not sure what Cajuns have to do with anything - why bring them up?
-
Was that before or after he ordered the popo to leave?

You tell us. You seem to have far more knowledge about the situation tahn anyone else does.
BTW, you ignored my other question:
I'm not sure what Cajuns have to do with anything - why bring them up?
-
According to popo and witnesses immediately after the clash of titans the hunt for the elusive administrator happened after R "ordered " popo to get outta there.
-
Why do you continue to avoid my question?
-
You wanted a whole session of training. My point is that it is so simple that even a Cajun could get it in just a few sentences. Do not (or should not anyway) require a whole session
-
Let's take this opportunity to recognize Mikes post number 7500. Perhaps it is the appropriate time to end the "don't know when to quit" thread... Lol
-
ThNks to all you little people who helped me reach this momentus plateau.. And the phrase "doesn't know when to quit " is very appropriate here as this situation over there in East Texas was one where neither side knew when to quit.

Again, what do Cajuns have to do with anything? Are you somehow under the mistaken impression that I'm a Cajun for some reason, or perhaps that one or both of the arrested officials were Cajuns perhaps? They aren't, by the way.
I'm not understanding why you would use that.
You aren't attempting to be disparaging by any chance, are you?

Request accommodated.
