NFHS - Play 1 - K punts the ball at the 50 yard line. R1 and K1 are engaged in blocking downfield at the 5 yard line. K2 legally bats the ball and hits R1 in the leg. R1 jumps on the ball, but it a) the ball comes out and is recovered by K1 on the 1 or b) the ball comes out and goes in the en-zone and recovered by K1. What do we have here?
Play 2 - K punts the ball at the 50 yard line. There are no R players around to cover the ball. K1 is in the en-zone and as the ball is bouncing, bats the ball away, which comes to rest on the 5. The ball never crosses the en-zone line. What do we have here?

Play 1- a) The initial touching by R1 from the block by K1 is ignored. However when R1 fell on it and failed to gain possession it is a muff, it is K1's ball at the R1 yard line. b) Same except TD.
Play 2- Assuming you mean the goal line, it is R's ball at the R5 yard line.

Did you mean to type "TB"? A kick is a kick is a kick.......

I also think it's debatable whether or not touching is ignored in question A.
It doesn't really say K was blocked into the ball. Regardless, there was also touching by K so in the first case R can take the ball @ K5 and in the 2nd case it's a touchback.

I'm with Verile - we've got first touching by K wherever he touched the ball to bat it, don't we? Since R hasn't committed a foul after touching the ball, and there's no penalty being accepted, they'd have the right to take the ball at the spot of the touch, which they'd do in play 1. In play 2, since the loose ball is still a kick, and it went into the end zone, they'll pass on the first touching and take the ball at their own 20.

I originally thought touchback myself but the more I read this statement, I had a hard time conceiving it was still a kick. I missed the follow-up 1st touching by K.
Not exact play-
6.2.4 SITUATION:
It is fourth and 10 and K11 punts the ball from K's 40-yard line. While R1 and K1 are engaged in blocking downfield at R's 30-yard line, K2 legally bats the ball at R's 28-yard line and the batted ball touches R1 on the leg. Then, K3 recovers the ball at the 30-yard line.
RULING: This touching by R is ignored and R will have the choice of taking the ball at the spot of first touching or the dead-ball spot.

If the ball was never possessed, it's still a kick. It is possible that B possessed the ball momentarily then fumbled it into the endzone, but unless that is really, REALLY obvious, it's a muff in my book.
