Title: Creative Writing
Post by: yarnnelg on September 30, 2015, 06:12:56 PM
White Hat arrives. "What in the world Ray?" "Provided there are no other flags" "There are none." "We have a touchdown by blue with clean hands. Following the touchdown, # 46 White takes the legs out on the running back 9 yards deep in the end zone. Dead ball late hit on 46." "I saw that, great call, the hat?" "As I was trying to talk them down, # 10 White unsnaps his chin strap and expresses his desire to have illicite sexual relations with me. When I inquired as to nature of his true intent, he removed his helmet and expressed his desire for me to have illicite sexual relations with my Mother." "I think it's time #10 retire early tonight." "He has been instructed." "Ray, how long did it take you to come up with that description?" "15 years and it will be my report to the state."

First Coach "Wow, there is no doubt regarding what he said. I have no argument to make. The old, If you use the word why can't he argument can't work." Coach again "I like what you did here. You may attend his execution at dawn."

The letter was passed around the Florida offices.

Laugh if you like, but this is very poor reporting practice.

Failing to write what the player said verbatim just begs to have discipline overturned.

If a player tells you "Go CRAP yourself," it is an error to write anything in the report other than "Go CRAP yourself."

Edit: I didn't write "CRAP". I wrote something else. The autocensor is a poor reporter.

Refuse to write profanity any longer. If the state or coach needs a clarification they will ask. In this case it was understood regarding what the player said. It also eliminated the coach shoving a stupid comment down our throat. "If you can use the word why can't he?" There was no argument and the discussion ended.

Been told by many guys who work at a much higher level than I do, to report it verbatim.  So that is what I do.

OTOH...coaches that act like this guy are just rats.

I always write verbatim because I am not that creative and I know how to spell all those 4 letter words.

That's why I started officiating Semi Pro. Wanted to learn more four letter words.

I work the chain for my local FCS school.  I've worked the auxiliary marker on the visiting sidelines recently a couple of times, and was on the visiting team's sideline when a local HBCU came to town last year.  I didn't realize that the word that rhymes with "fire truck" could be used as so many different parts of speech - I heard it as a noun, a verb, an adjective, and an exclamation.  I think it was even used as a conjunction a couple of times...

My wife learned more new words in 33 years of teaching first grade than I ever heard in 40 years on a football field.  yEs:
