So much for time limits for halftime!!!

Having had kids who were in the band and kids to play football and were in the band and now it's a grandson who is a drum major, I certainly understand the importance of everything to the Friday night experience. Halftime girls a little long because that's what it takes to get it done, then so be it. Everybody involved in all facets of the experience work hard and deserve their time in the spotlight.

Don McClean was around again.
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield

The kids in the band work hard too, and deserve a chance to have their time. I've never flagged a band, and barring some ridiculous situation, I don't think I ever will.

Well, at least the teams are in the same school district. That is why the supt gets the big bucks. Band and drill parents are not the kind of people you want to HACK off.

I found out the hard way about half times. Working a pee-wee game and we had a long lightning delay with about 1 minute left in the 2nd qtr. After the delay and darkness approaching I talked to the coaches and we decided to play the minute and go directly into the 3rd qtr. Big mistake, nobody asked the cheerleading moms about this decision.
Believe me when I say the FB coaches ire can be bad, but just get a cheerleader mom fired up and tell me what is worse.

Common sense and taking a moment to consider the overall experience, and the benefit and enjoyment provided to EVERYONE attending, suggests insisting on precision timing seriously elevates the risk of "throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Even if the band, cheerleaders or other functions delay starting the game, or the 2nd half the important thing to remember is the game clock will start at 12:00.

There are many schools in this area where more people go to see the band than the game. I have worked stadiums that were close to full in the first half, and almost empty for the second half regardless of the score. Once the bands were done, the majority of the crowd left.

The year before my son reached HS, the then HFC reached a decision, very, very late, to not have a JV team and just put everyone on varsity. JV cheerleader parents reacted with pitchforks and torches and stormed the principal's office. "We paid good money for camps and uniforms and such, by gosh, and our daughters WILL CHEERLEAD!"
Principal decides ok, here's my compromise- JV cheerleaders will go do the away games and Varsity cheer will do the home ones. The varsity cheerleading parents descend on the school with tanks and bazookas and such and declare- "By GOSH our daughters are VARSITY cheerleaders and they WILL cheerlead ALL varsity games!"
Day 3 of the crisis, HFC announces there will be a JV team after all.
One of my longtime WH's is a former principal and asst. super. When we discussed this he said there are two groups of parents you never want to #!$$ off at a HS- cheerleader and band.

Agreed. As a member of my local school board, I found out the hard way how seriously people take cheerleading and band. Football is an afterthought by comparison.
