To me, I'm thinking this guy is done for the day. At the very least there should be a penalty, no?

ARTICLE 4. Persons subject to the rules (Rule 1-1-6) shall not intentionally
contact a game official forcibly during the game.
PENALTY—Administer as a dead-ball foul. 15 yards from the succeeding
spot. Automatic first down for fouls by Team B if not in conflict
with other rules. Automatic disqualification [S7, S27 and S47].
I'm guessing that since his back was to the player, the referee thought the contact was accidental.

where's the rest of his crew?

You don't flag accidental contact. Ron knew what happened and flagged the player but chose not to eject him.

From viewing the tape, it appears deliberate and unbelievably disrespectful. Anytime, anyone of us allows anyone (player, coach administrator, spectator) to flagrantly diminish, or disrespect our position and stature on the field, it lowers the required standard of behavior which makes, not only the job that much more difficult, but lowers the image of the sport.

In NCAA there is no option. If you flag a player for intentional contact, you must eject him. And I don't see any reason for not to eject, in this case or any other case.

Welcome to big time college football guys.

Why is this even a question? Flag and disqualification.

There wasn't a flag in the original video; I didn't realize it had happened later.
If he threw the flag for contacting an official, then by rule there should have been an ejection. Perhaps there is separate guidance from the conference that we are unaware of; in any event, I'm sure that's a discussion that will take place with his supervisor (or perhaps already has).

Ron Cherry is a heck of an official, so I'm hoping he had a good reason, and it wasn't a case of him just missing it.
That said, I'm a Hokie, and I was amazed he didn't get tossed.

Wow. Gone. No questions about it.
