Title: Visiting Japan
Post by: James on October 15, 2016, 09:07:57 AM
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a contact in a high-school or low level college assosiaction in Japan.

I will be travelling there end of Nov/early Dec and if I understand correctly their season is still going then.
I would like to see if I could participate in a game or two during my trip, but the only contact I found (JAFA) have not responded.

Does anyone from Japan read the board, or anyone have a contact with some officials in Japan? I will be in the centeral and southern areas for my stay.

Really appreciate any help I could get, thanks,
James

Graduated from High School in Japan, back when there were actually 12 schools that played ball. Those bases are all closed now.

From what I can find on the internet, the Department of Defense Schools aren't enough to warrant much in sports anymore. There is a Japan American Football League comprised of something like 300 schools. But they all speak Japanese and not English. I know it's not much help.

My Senior year 1972, we played the Japanese American Football Club as a scrimmage color game before our season started. We won 48-0. Later we were informed that the University of Utah was coming to play the Japanese All Stars in a football game. The same team we had played, just renamed. Utah had won nothing and had lost 12 straight. The first half ended with Utah ahead 7-0. Here we are, All Far East Champions 11-0 and we are watching a college team get man handled by a team we blew out of the stadium. The second half ended 49-0. So much for our thought that we could play on the field with a college team.
