Title: More Anti-football Legislation
Post by: TXMike on February 05, 2017, 09:40:50 AM
When the targeting rule came about we started talking about the reality that there are large numbers of our nation who would love to see football die off.    They seenit as an inherently violent and competitive sport that they want eliminated.   More legislation taking is that direction.  http://www.stltoday.com/news/national/no-tackling-lawmaker-seeks-ultimate-answer-to-football-hits/article_3d83f741-baa7-577e-910b-d8d080cb1fc6.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=email&utm_campaign=user-share

Banning lawmakers would be an even better solution.

Speaking as someone who thinks the NCAA should be abolished and the targeting rule repealed by federal legislation, I don't think this bill is unreasonable. If I'm reading this correctly, it would mandate flag football until middle school. While 12 is a bit extreme, perhaps it could be flag football until double digits. I do think they have a point about 6 and 7 year olds who can barely keep their heads straight up with the helmet on.

But nevertheless, it's still a very slippery slope. I do think there is support in Congress to protect football legislatively from lawsuits and state-level anti-football crusaders, especially considering the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee was the starting kicker at BYU from 1988-1989 and still holds the school record for most PATs attempted and made in a single game.
