Title: Illegal Touch, DPI, and Eligibility

I always thought when there were players this close together near the sideline and the one on outside touched OOB we were to rule he was forced out.  And certainly if he was the victim of a contact foul it seems we would rule he was forced out.     (I did not edit out the IR review but you may wanna fast forward as it seems interminable)   :-)

Thank you for posting this.  I logged on to ask about this.

It seems very unclear in this play how a contact foul and a player voluntarily going OOB could simultaneously occur.

And yes.  The replay was crazy long.

Replay cannot determine whether a player was forced out. If he is ruled to be forced out replay can only verify whether there was contact or not. Since he was not ruled to be forced out on the field, all replay can do is put on the illegal touch.

Funny thing is I just happened to catch the play and review right now as I flipped to the replay of the game on ESPNU.

Agree that "Forced" is not a factor.   Forced is not used in 7.3.4, the word "contact" is used.
