I think you meant to type UNS (?). No, not a UNS. This is called a "Non-Contact Foul," so nobody gets a UNS added to their 'counter.'

sorry but yes I meant UNS, CNS is a French abbreviation. So it's not an unsportsmanlike conduct but a personal foul.

No, not a personal foul - a “Non-Contact Foul.” This is a foul for simply forming the wedge, irrespective of any subsequent contact with an opponent. So, since it doesn’t require contact, it can’t be called a personal foul. They didn’t want this to count against a player as an unsportsmanlike conduct foul, so, it is called a “Non-Contact Foul.” The signal is #27, which, these days, is labeled Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Some time it ago, that signal was labeled Unsportsmanlike Conduct/Non-Contact Foul, and, before that, it was just Non-Contact Foul. So, don’t let the label of the signal confuse things.

This excludes illegal wedge, positioning oneself on top of another player before the snap, and marking the ball, among some other fouls with the signal #27.

They certainly made this more confusing by removing “non-contact foul” from the signal page.

I know you know these, Kalle, but as a reminder for others, the most frequent of those fouls (at least around these parts) are 10-2-5-a & b, Game Administration and Sideline Interference (being in the Restricted Area or interfering with an official while the ball is in play). Those don't get added to anybody's UNS 'counters,' either.
But, don't get those confused with 10-2-1-b-1, team personnel on the field of play without permission. That is a true UNS, and DOES get added to that person's UNS counter.

Yes. The penalty statement for this foul does use the term "non-contact foul." It would have been better to have kept the dual label of UNS and non-contact foul for the signal. But they didn't. So you have to rely on us old farts to recall "the good ol' days" (which never really existed, by the way). :)

Similarly to how the low block signal is used for an illegal block after a fair catch. It doesn't exactly signify what happened, but they lumped that foul into that signal. Same with the wedge got lumped in with the UNS signal. Doesn't make it a UNS.
