What happens if you get to a 5th extra period where neither team has a kicker?
-
Somebody has to try. It may take a while to get a successful field goal, but you just keep going until they do.
Egg on my face. Of course.
I have worked 2 six-player games, and one 8-player game in my 45 season career (over 49 years). My very first varsity assignment was six-player, and I had an eight player game that same year (1974). My other six-player game came in week one this year. Nothing like 48 years between 6-player games.
Thankfully, we didn't go into extra periods.

Good news: they can't kick after 4OT. For 1A football, starting in 5OT teams will run 1 point attempts from the B-7.
-
Who needs a kicker? Starting with the 5th they run 1 point plays from the 7 yardline.
-
Ah thank you. Didn’t see that in the mechanics manual with the exceptions.
So for 3 and 4 they have to attempt FG then?
-
Yes. The rule says “attempt a 2 point try” and there is no exception for that rule. So whereas 11-man football teams must attempt to score a touchdown, 6-man teams must attempt to score a field goal in 3OT and 4OT.
-
That said, it would be extremely unusual for a 6 man game to have overtime. Most are over at the half, or first play after the half if team members also play in the band due to the mercy rule
-
Our chapter has had at least 2 6-man games go to overtime this year and I had one that came within 4 points of doing so. That’s only two missed tries...
-
I was at one that went to double on Saturday. Blocked xp ended it.

I had 1 this year. My first ot game.. I was correct on the rules up until the 5th ot luckily it only took 1 to finish up.
